Our two outstanding existing secondary schools, Denbigh High School and Challney High School for Boys are Luton’s highest performing schools and they also outperformed most of the other secondary schools in Bedfordshire in the 2015 and 2016 examinations. If you are the parent or carer of a child that will need a school place in 2019 then we urge you to learn more about this proposal by visiting the different pages on this website. Further information about the development of the new school, including the proposed location, will be added to this website as it becomes available.

School Overview

The Students

Kingsland Academy will be a mixed-sex, 11-16 secondary Free School for 750 students with five forms of entry. The admission number for each year would be 150.

Learning

Although being a ‘Free School’, the Kingsland Academy will follow the National Curriculum with specialist areas of Maths and Science.

Environment

The students will benefit from an outstanding working environment which will provide a comfortable and enjoyable place to learn, supported by the very latest technologies.

Local Links

It is the Trust’s aim to make this an ‘Outstanding’ school for the Luton community and the new school will have strong links with local businesses.

Why do we need a new school?

By September 2019, Luton will be short 200 places for the secondary schools in the Town. These students are already in Luton primary schools and the existing secondary schools are being asked to extend their admission number to help cope with this increase.

As part of their analysis, Luton Borough Council has identified the need for a new co-education secondary school in the central area of the town because this is the area that will have the biggest shortage of secondary school places.

The development of the new Kinglsand Academy will not only solve this shortage of places, but it will provide the community with a newly built school, with excellent facilities, that is managed by the organisation that currently runs the two highest performing secondary schools in the area.
